Special Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs)

Each Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) normally admits up to 80 students into Class VI through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), subject to the availability of eligible and suitable candidates.

However, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) reserves the right to:

Reduce the intake from 80 to 40 seats where necessary.
Withhold the declaration of results.
Cancel or withhold admissions.
Postpone or cancel the conduct of the JNVST in areas where adequate school infrastructure or accommodation is not available.

At present, 689 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) have been sanctioned across India, covering almost every state and union territory except Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, no JNV has been established in six fully urban districts, as they do not fall under the JNV Scheme:

Central Delhi
New Delhi
Hyderabad
Kolkata
Mumbai
Mumbai Suburban

These districts are excluded because the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme is primarily intended to provide quality education to talented students from rural areas.
