All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) on Base 2012=100 March 2024
AICPIN for March 2024: The National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released a press statement on 12th April 2024 concerning the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March 2024.
In this statement, the NSO, a division of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), is presenting the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) based on the 2012=100 index, along with the corresponding Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) for Rural (R), Urban (U), and Combined (C) sectors for the month of March 2024 (Provisional). Additionally, CPIs for Subgroups and Groups for both All India and various States/Union Territories (UTs) are also being disclosed.
The price information has been gathered from a total of 1114 urban markets and 1181 villages across all States/UTs through personal visits conducted by field staff of the Field Operations Division of NSO, MoSPI on a weekly rotation schedule. In March 2024, price data was collected from 99.8% of villages and 98.5% of urban markets. The market-wise price coverage stood at 89.6% for rural areas and 93.2% for urban areas.
The press release will provide the All India inflation rates (on a point-to-point basis, comparing the current month to the same month of the previous year – i.e., March 2024 over March 2023) based on General Indices and CFPIs.

BSNL Employees Union Demands: Release AICPIN March 2024
The General Secretary of the BSNL Employees Union, P. Abhimanyu, penned a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment to address the concerning delay in releasing the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPIN) for March 2024. The purpose of the letter was to urge the prompt issuance of the AICPIN press release and to take necessary actions to ensure this. One of the key highlights of the letter emphasized the non-payment of the revised IDA rates effective from the 1st of April, 2024.
The employees have been waiting for the revised IDA rates to be implemented, but due to the delay in the release of the AICPIN figures by the Labour Bureau for the month of March 2024, the DPE has not been able to announce the revised rates as scheduled. This unprecedented delay has caused significant concern among the employees. In response to this issue, BSNLEU has officially communicated with the Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, urging immediate intervention and appropriate actions to address this critical matter.
