Who can stay in Sainik Rest House?
The Ex-Servicemen community, which includes ex-servicemen themselves, their widows, and dependents, often find themselves needing to visit their local district or state-level military boards for a variety of reasons. These visits could be related to resettlement matters, medical care, legal issues, pension concerns, access to canteen facilities, and more. Additionally, they may also need to travel to other major towns or cities for medical treatment, religious pilgrimages, or leisure trips. During these occasions, finding suitable and affordable lodging for short stays in these locations becomes crucial.
To cater to this need, numerous Sainik Rest Houses have been constructed across the country. The state governments or union territories offer the land for these rest houses free of charge, with the maintenance responsibility falling on the respective state government or union territory. These facilities are managed by the relevant district or state military boards. The Government of India contributes 50% of the construction costs for Sainik Rest Houses in accordance with established procedures.
In addition to the state-level facilities, a Central Sainik Rest House has been established on Defense Land in Naraina, New Delhi. This facility, with an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore, is maintained by the Ministry of Defence through the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB). Its purpose is to provide ex-servicemen with decent accommodation at subsidized rates when they visit the national capital.
