High Security Registration Plates

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India has made an amendment to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules in 2018, now called the Central Motor Vehicles (Sixteenth Amendment) Rules. This amendment requires vehicle manufacturers to choose a High Security Registration Plate vendor with Type Approval Certificate before registering and delivering the vehicle to the owner. The approved plates will be fixed by the dealer.

Get RTO Fancy Number for Vehicles in Tamil Nadu

TN Fancy Number Registration for vehicles in 2024 involves the assignment of a unique Registration Mark to each registered vehicle in accordance with the MV act. During the Registration Approval process, a random number is provided to the vehicle. If a vehicle owner desires a specific or fancy Registration number within 1000 numbers of the current series, they can submit an application to the relevant RTO / MVI along with the registration disclaimer issued by the dealer.

The fee structure for obtaining a preferred number is as follows:
(i) Two-Wheeler and Three-Wheeler: Rs. 2000/-
(ii) Four-Wheeler valued up to Rs. Four lakhs: Rs. 10000/-
(iii) Other vehicles valued over Rs. Four lakhs: Rs. 16000/-

In cases where the requested advance or fancy number exceeds the 1000th Registration Mark of the ongoing series or is from an Advance series or Government Reserved Fancy number, the vehicle owner must submit an application with a copy of the Sale Certificate (CMVR FORM-21) to the Secretary to Government, Home (Transport) dept., Secretariat in Chennai. Upon receiving the necessary government approval for the assigned number, the owner can proceed to the RTO/MVI office for vehicle registration and tax payment by settling the applicable advance number Fees based on the series as detailed below:

  • Up to four series: Rs. 40,000/-
  • Series five to eight: Rs. 60,000/-
  • Series Nine and Ten: Rs. 1,00,000/-
  • Series 11th and 12th: Rs. 2,00,000/-
