The Government of Tamil Nadu has officially released the Public Holidays List for 2026 for all State Government Offices and all Commercial & Co-operative Banks operating in Tamil Nadu. This notification is published under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 and contains an exhaustive list of holidays that will be observed across the state.

The G.O. explains that holidays fall under two primary categories:

  • Public Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881
  • Government Holidays applicable to all State Government offices

All Saturdays and Sundays in 2026 are also Government Holidays. The list of holidays is published via an official Gazette notification and applies to State Government undertakings, corporations, boards, and related institutions.

Legal Basis & Applicability

The holiday list is issued under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, read with the Government of India’s notification dated 8 June 1957. These holidays apply to State Government offices, banks, public sector undertakings, boards, and various institutions.
