Sawan Somwar Vrat Date 2024 Katha

Legend has it that Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva graced the earth with their presence during a fateful journey away from Kailash. En route, they chanced upon a grand temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Feeling fatigued from their travels, the divine duo decided to take a respite. Goddess Parvati, filled with delight at the temple’s sight, proposed to Lord Shiva that they engage in a game of dice, which enthralled them for hours.

Upon learning of the game’s outcome, the Priest confidently declared Lord Shiva as the winner, only to witness Goddess Parvati emerge victorious. Enraged by the Priest’s erroneous prediction, Goddess Parvati cursed him with leprosy. Bereft and desolate, the Priest wandered aimlessly until he encountered two celestial beings who advised him to observe the Solah Somvar Vrat for 16 consecutive Mondays. Adhering faithfully to their guidance, the Priest experienced a miraculous recovery.

Intrigued by the Priest’s healing, Goddess Parvati sought an explanation. The Priest recounted how the Solah Somvar fast had played a pivotal role in his restoration. Impressed by this account, Goddess Parvati undertook the vrat herself and witnessed a miraculous reunion with her son Kartikeya on the 16th fasting day. These extraordinary events underscored the divine efficacy of the vrat, leading to the establishment of the Sawan Somwar Vrat Katha in remembrance of this extraordinary event.
