This law requires private schools to reserve 25% of their seats for children coming from underprivileged backgrounds.
Specifically, the RTE Act dictates that private schools must allocate a quarter of their seats at the entry level, including LKG and Class I, for children from economically and socially disadvantaged sectors of society. State governments also give priority to admitting children in specific categories like conservancy workers, those impacted by HIV, individuals with disabilities, and orphans under the RTE admissions policy.
The admission process should commence through public notification, giving ample time for applicants to submit their requests online to the nearest private school. Moreover, the selection process needs to be transparent and fair, possibly utilizing a Draw of Lots system. Following this, the results of the admission process should be prominently displayed on the school notice board and published on the school’s official website, listing the names of all candidates along with their respective roll numbers.
